I was checking my tree today and I noticed what looks like bits of wire wrapped around a branch. It looks to be the remains of where the tree was initially wired before I purchased it. The bark has grown around it. I assume it's not good to leave it on the tree however I said I would ask before I remove it incase I hurt the tree

Oh Nooooo.... Yea it would not be good to leave it on the tree. Check to see how much the wire has bitten into the bark. What type of tree is it? Got any photo's?

It a banyan ficus I have attached a photo. You can see the small wire sticking up where I have begun to take it off

Added photos of the damage and what I took out of the tree. Hopefully the damage isn't bad enough that it won't repair itself?

That isn't awful. That will recover over time. From what I know about that species it can grow pretty quick. Keep it healthy and the wire scars will fade.
