Hi you all,

This is the first tree (focus) I have and I am bit a concerned about it. I left for two weeks and when I came back the tree had lost around the 70% of its leaves, some of the leaves left were "curly and lighter", and the trunk was turning white. During this time, it was watered as usual but it didn't get enough light (the curtains remained closed almost every single day). We also bought a new air freshener which was quite close to the tree. I've moved the tree to the brighter room in the flat and kept watering it as usual. I'm afraid it may have a fungus, so I've been thinking of repotting it (in order to check the roots). But I'm not sure it would be good for it right now (it might be too stressful?). I attached some pictures.

I'd appreciate some advice here. I really love this guy

Soil looks concern to me.
Dont repot at this point, tree should recover first and if you are in the northern hemisphere its not the time now.

This type of question is asked every second day. Look for mallsai, ginseng, "is my tree dying" or similar.
Note that this plant has nothing to do with bonsai, besides being a woody plant in a pot.

I was taking care of my friend's cat, so I stayed at her place for two weeks. During that time, I came and went and checked the plant once a week for watering.

Whenever the top of the soil was dry.

No, the room is actually very bright but the curtains remained closed almost everyday. I realized that talking to my flatmate when I came back, she told me she doesn't spread them everyday, since she gets home very late. I open the curtains and ventilate every single day, so I'm afraid that was a massive change to the plant.

What do you mean? What could I do about it but repotting the plant? I know it's not the right time to fertilize it either. Is that white stuff normal?

Thank you for your answer. I actually did look before but I didn't find everything I was hoping for (not because the info is not there, but mostly because I don't know much about the topic). That's why I decided to upload some pictures in order to make sure I was paying attention to the right stuff. I've kept reading other posts, though.

Since when you have this tree in your home?

My suggestion would be, and have in mind I am no expert - just based on my experience and knowledge so far, leave the tree as it is, dont intervene so far. I guess there was too much shock delivered to it - new home, quick change of sunlight doses, constant temperature differences..

Keep watering it as you do, I hope you dont dunk it in water but water it the normal way. Try to keep temperature in the room warm and constant - dont open the windows for long since the weather out there is still cold. Be sure it gets at least some light, but not direct. The closer to sunny window the better. Keep far away from heaters.
