Hello Everyone,
do any of you have experience with apple trees? The buds on mine are already starting to open. I have had it outside, and it is starting to get warmer... but I am wondering if this is normal? I assume, I should just prevent the root ball from freezing and be sure it gets more light? or any other advice?

Welcome to early-ish spring weather, even though it's February. There are a few trees that are early bloomers/budders, like persimmon and trident maple. Your apple may be in the same line.
If your tree is coming out of dormancy, there's not much to stop it. While in this phase, it is more susceptible to freezing issues, so keep an eye on the weather. If it's dipping down below freezing, you might bring it in for a day or so until it warms back up outside. Try to keep the tree in a cool area of the house, then take it back out where you had it. Keep it there until the warmer temperatures become more consistent, then move it to your regularly scheduled bonsai stand.

Not much you can do. I assume you hhave it in the coolest spot in the garden, out of the sun?
Just make sure you bring it in a shelterede area once frost arrives.

I have it on a balcony, which doesn't get much sun in the winter at all... and right now it is still there. It generally stays slightly above freezing there... that is maybe why it is starting to open? I looked up the tree, and some of them do actually come out of dormancy mid-february. It is early, but not a month early.
The temps over the next week shouldn't get much below -2 C.... so I am hoping it won't be a problem.. should I just cover the pot, or could leaves also be a problem? the balcony it's on doesn't get much wind, if the door to my apartment is closed.
