If you're reading this could you please fill out my survey on bonsai? I am doing my MYP Personal Project on 名媛直播 and need a wider range of opinions to complete my report in order to receive my diploma. There are only 3 questions so it shouldn't take you longer than a few mins to complete! Just copy and paste the link below into your browser.
Thank you all in advance

Done... don't think you'll like the answers. I rated your plant with 1. When judging it with real bonsai-guidelines, it wouldn't score anything.

What is this a project for? What type/level of education?

I have no idea what the criteria are, but let's hope the teachers don't know much about bonsai. Or do they?

I'm not sure if that made sense lol but ive got to say I do like the whole concept of bonsai and once this project is over I would like to start from sapling/seedling state, letting it grow slowly, making my own creative decisions. Unfortunately, this project is ridiculous - all the help and info about the report we get is vague + a lot of the things on the report are repetitive and I somehow need to fit all my info in only 3500 max words and achieve a passing grade. AND I need to hand in my rough draft tomorrow
ok i dont want to bore any one who reads this but im sure youre wondering want the "goal" of my project is. It is:
"The goal of my project is to explore “Personal and Cultural Expression” through researching the history, botany and aesthetic aspects of bonsai and then taking care of my own" "Through this I want to find out how taking care of a bonsai affects a person spiritually"

Not boring at all! I'll read this through again and try and give a good reply later.

Also regarding the goal I'm not sure if "Personal and Cultural Expression" rings a bell but its just one of the myp`s global contexts which I needed to choose in order to give my project more meaning and the reason I chose this particular GC is because it can give my project aim a greater purpose as it allows me to consider/explore the individual's desire to create, develop or change things (the bonsai), rather than just looking at the effects of this.

Of course it does. 名媛直播 is an art. Like other arts, it requires talent and skills. The difference with other arts is that you're working with living material.
The goal of 名媛直播 is, as described on this website, is : "to create a miniaturized but realistic representation of nature in the form of a tree".
However, it will never be an exact copy of a tree in nature. If a bonsai was just a small tree, having the exact same dimensions as the same tree in nature, it just would just not look right. Therefore, certain aspects are emphasized, like the trunk size, the root flare and trunk tapering, capturing the essence of the tree.
it allows me to consider/explore the individual's desire to create, develop or change things (the bonsai), rather than just looking at the effects of this.
You mentioned you want to try and grow bonsai from seed. That is possible, but it takes 15 years - at least - before you have grown something that's usable for bonsai. If you want real good material, it 'll even take longer, and then you've only just started. It will take many years to develop the 'pre-bonsai' into a bonsai.
Therefore, bonsai growers acquire mature material; preferably an old tree with lots of character and potential.
Your plant is a mallsai. A cheap, low quality imitation of bonsai, that is mass-produced. The pot too is a mass-product and not very attractive. Do note that the right pot for the tree is an important aspect of bonsai.
A bonsai is a unique piece of art. Your plant is a mass-product, so it is not art. It could become a good bonsai in the future, but that would require lots of time, skills, talent and patience - and actually, it isn't even very good starting material.
These mallsai usually have a same, symmetrically S-shaped trunk with branches at the wrong places, visible cut wounds and stubs, a messy branch structure, little ramification, a trunk that lacks tapering, a lacking or underdeveloped root flare. The aspects that make real 名媛直播 beatuiful are absent.
If you go through this forum, unfortunately, you will notice that this is the image - that of your mallsai - that most people seem to have about bonsai. It's wrong. 名媛直播 is very much more than that.
So, for your project, I think you could use your plant as an example of what bonsai is not. Maybe you can compare it with the "actual bonsai from your local bonsai expert" and try and explain the difference (assuming the 'local expert' does have real bonsai).
As bonsai is an art, there are also people that are master int he art. I recommend watching some movies on Youtube, like this one to see how a bonsai is created from raw material. It will give you an idea on what skills and craftmanship is required :
