So I'm very new to caring for a bonsai. I had a ficus bonsai that died, a very smelly slime ate into the roots and trunk. I have gotten a new one since then and because of the first failure I'm very carful not to over water my current one but it's is showing signs that it's not well. The trunk is shrivelling and the leafs in the middle of the plant are going yellow. Any idea what I is causing this? The soil is moist but not wet and it gets sun in the morning and in the afternoon and it's in a dry location.

Something wrong with the roots. You probably let it dry out, sitting on a heater.
