Trunk cut or replant tree first

I have a friend that's clearing out some space in her garden to plant some veggies. Theres a nice tree that she's offered me from this space that she doesn't want. The trunk is about 2" thick atm, but very straight. Now would be a good time to chop the trunk to get some taper going. She wants to move it fairly soon. Should I replant the tree in my garden, wait for the roots to establish and then do the trunk cut or can I do both at the same time?
It's mid summer here in South Africa and I don't want to lose another season with the trunk growing in it's current shape.
The tree is native to South Africa and should adjust fine in my garden across the city.
What would be the ideal course of action I should take?
Thanks in advance

I would not move a plant mid-summer unless I had to. IF you have to move it, I would also cut back.
Ideally you wait untill the end of the dormant period. Normally moving./repotting out of seasons means the plant goes into a sort of dormat stage for the rest of the season, leaving you with a year without development. That being said.. A lot depends on the species and the aftercare you can provide.
