Well, I am glad you did not call it bonsai. It is a Chinese Elm, keep it in the garden and prune the long shoots.

Hi,.
This is a nice pre-bonsai./ A zelkova Serrata by the looks of it. I hope yu are keeping it outside? As it is winter, the leaves are suppose to change color (Actually, I am surprized there are leaves on it at all). Or are you in the Southern hemisphere perhaps?

Hi Leatherback, thank you for the input. upon reading the descriptions, it is closer to the zelkova serrata as you mentioned. I am locate din the long beach area in ca. i did put it outside per your recommendation. one question if you dont mind, you mentioned keeping it outside because it is winter. would it be ok to keep it inside during summer months, in a good sunned window?? i am planning on taking classes at the nursery that it came from so these are all questions i will be asking and hope to learn more, thanks again for your feedback, cheers and happy holidays!!

Nope. Trees belong outside. They are plants, and need the outside.
