Hi all, newbie here looking for a bit of friendly advice.
I recently got a lovely ficus microcarpa about 3 weeks ago, it a beautiful big thing approx. 3ft, with glorious foliage.
My worry is that I've noticed the leaves falling off (daily). Is it just the acclimatisation of moving into a new environment that is causing this problem? I've pruned a few leaves off to create a bit of form, but i'm worried maybe i shouldn't go too far with the snipping. I probably watered it a bit too much at the beginning, but now trying to only water it once a week, (according to what the books say).
The plant is position nicely beside the window and gets the morning sun, (unfortunately no south facing windows in the house). The house is new, well insulated, no draughts and a ventilation system supplying fresh filtered air around the house.
Any advice please would be greatly appreciated. ……… I don't want this fantastic piece to die.
Thanks in advance, Rusty

Ikea plant or real bonsai?
If it's a real bonsai, the nursery where you purchased it will be able to give you expert advise.

That is possible, the plant does need to acclimatize, however:
now trying to only water it once a week, (according to what the books say).
What book is that? The instruction is wrong. Look up Ficus and its care guidelines under the "Tree Species" section (top of the page).
Ficus, and problems with them, including the dropping of leaves, is one of the most discussed topics (not just on this forum). I recommend doing some searching.
