My mother ended up getting me a Chinese elm for Christmas because I had expressed that I wanted a plant for my office. After reading online and through the instruction materials it appears that the Chinese elm will more than likely die if I keep it in my office as I have no exterior windows and the only light we have are halogen lights. I guess my question is what do I do with this Chinese elm right now as the nights have been getting below freezing and are there any suggestions of a bonsai that I might be able to keep in my office?

Yes. An artificial one.
