Decapitated 18 year old ficus: any hope?

My beloved ficus of high sentimental value just had its top snapped clean off. There are aerial roots leading to the break which gives me some hope for the snapped top. The base has three remaining non-productive (leaf-producing) branches still attached below the break.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated to keep as much of this tree alive as possible. I have only ever watered, fertilized, and occasionally pruned this tree for almost a decade and am a rank novice.
It is an indoor tree, that formerly had full afternoon sun.
Thank you.

It is desperate for a repot. Your soild have become filled with calcium deposits. Do not do too much to the roots. Just break awaythe clumps without roots, and repot in a bigger pot.
This tree is on its way out if no action is taken.
