Cryptomeria Japonica Identification help was created by Pinenut89

Can someone please help me identify this tree? I know it is Cryptomeria Japonica but I don't know what the cultivar is. Any help would be appreciated. (Just bought the tree yesterday so I had nothing to do with the current styling or condition besides placing it in a bigger pot to allow for more growth. Any styling suggestions are welcome too.)

It is what you said it is. Just a young plant in a pot. Nothing has been done to it yet so you need to think about what style would be best and how to prune You also need to learn how to water. I hop you took it in only to take a picture and you have it outside.

I know it's a Japanese Cedar. I was asking if you could tell what kind of young Japanese Cedar it is. Which cultivar so I can get another one in the future. Also, yes, it was only brought in for the picture.

The answer to that is no. It is not possible to be certain if it is a cultivar let alone which.

Cryptomeria japonica 'Albo-Spica'
Cryptomeria japonica 'Bandai'
Cryptomeria japonica 'Cristata'
Cryptomeria japonica 'Elegans'
Cryptomeria japonica 'Elegans Aurea'
Cryptomeria japonica 'Elegans Nana'
Cryptomeria japonica 'Globosa Nana'
Cryptomeria japonica 'Gyokuryu'
Cryptomeria japonica 'Jindai'
Cryptomeria japonica 'Knaptonensis'
Cryptomeria japonica 'Koshyi'
Cryptomeria japonica 'Monstrosa'
Cryptomeria japonica 'Sekkan'
Cryptomeria japonica 'Tansu'
Cryptomeria japonica 'Yellow Twig'

So there is no way to know if it is one of these different varieties? Maybe Cultivar is the wrong word to use?

Cultivar is fine. I guess Cryptomeria is just not used so often and people don't know how to distinguish the varieties. I know I don't.
But you know the names, so why not Google and compare images?

Wondering though what you see in this plant? What style is it that you have in mind? Why do you need more - are you planning a forest?

I tried finding images on google for a few hours but they were all so vague and I really couldn't spot the difference between them, especially since when I bought the tree the tag just said, "Japanese Cedar" and it was already in its current form so I don't know how it started out. I'm not planning a forest but I do like how the foliage hangs like it does and I'm concerned about the health of the one I bought. It was the only one they had in the store and the soil was very swampy and runny, plus it has some spots draining sap from either pruning or damage. Either way, the owner of the shop didn't give me any details except to say it came in a box of random starter bonsai. Who knows. I'm going to grow it out for a while and make sure its healthy before doing any work to it. I have learned enough to know not to touch these guys during the winter. If you have any suggestions I'd appreciate it.

It was. I figured if I planted it in the ground come spring it would fatten up a bit.

Hope you didn't pay too much...

The lower branches don't look usable to me. I have no experience with cryptomeria, but if I'm right, they do bud back. It's going to take more than 'fattening it up a bit' - several years of growth and training before this becomes usable.
