Newbie & first steps for my Portulacaria afra was created by Giacomo

Dear all,
Real happy to join the community, I love the website and well - my first bonsai! I received as a gift what I think is a portulacaria afra (correct me if I'm wrong!), and I started reading basics-books, watching videos etc to gain basic knowledge of what I believe will become a growing passion! Now however, got to stop reading/watching, and deal with my first baby. For a newbie, it's not easy to understand where to begin, especially now that I assume we are headed towards winter. Also, I'm not sure how well the plant was taken care of (quality of soil, etc.) and if the pruning had been done systematically (I can see very short & very long branches). I'm in total confusion, and would love to hear your suggestions! Shall I wait until early spring for a repotting, shall I do a last pruning before winter, or just leave it be? Also, style-wise - where shall I focus my attention?
Thanks you all!
