Let alone what exactly I should do to care for it. Her name is Flo, she was a gift from my sister. I've been keeping the soil moist, but I don't know if that's all I need to do.
Any tips for a brand new tree grower?

Here's the tree

I thought it looked like juniper.
I noticed you don't seem to have a very high opinion of it :P but could I still raise it like a small tree? Or would it just kinda be a bush?

Yep...it's a juniper. I am new to bonsai, however, in my short time here I have seen a few plants in your condition and I think I can help you out. It is not a question concerning bonsai at this point, it is more a question of basic plant care. The bonsai stuff can come later. Right now you need to get your plant healthy. Here are 4 things you need to do.
1st: Pull the plant out of the bonsai pot and replant it in a nice 5 gallon bucket with good drainage and potting soil.
2nd: Get some slow release fertilizer any kind will do...just a spoonful, and mix it into the soil.
3rd: Set the plant outdoors in the sun...always... never inside..unless it might freeze and then try to keep it outside but covered somehow. Water it when the soil feels a little dry.
4th: Give it time...a couple of years....maybe more...while you wait do some research about bonsai techniques so you can be ready to start the process.
There you go...Flo will love you for it!

Yes it is a juniper but a juniper procumbens nana. A bit different from the commonly used junipers.

I don't have a high opinion of the people that sell this as bonsai - and the same question about similar looking 'bonsai' is asked very, very often.
From the photo it doesn't seem to be in great health. The color doesn't seem right, but that can be the photo.

You'll need to get it healthy and strong. RTMan already gave the right instructions.

I dusagree with the advi e given. Planting olants in pots tgat are way larger than the current rootbal cause a lot of problems. Just olant it in a container one size bigger than what you have now. Put it outside. Hope it recovers. It does not need fertilizer. Also in winter, keep it outside.

I am with auk that it looks off. It might be dead already. Is the foliage brittle or flexible?
