I got given an olive tree bonsai for Christmas and its been doing greet till about the last week of winter (which is in August where the nights and shade is cold but the sun can be quite piercing). me being me though I thought I knew what I was doing but didn't know how to car for it properly on winter. Once I realized it wasn't doing too well and that it was dehydrated I started caring for it.
Steps I took:
I heard that taking the plant and soaking it in water for 10-20mins helps with hydrating it.
I sprayed the leaves and soil with some water as well once a day.
I also noticed that the roots were over taking so I thought I had to repot it.
Nothing seems to be helping though.
My bonsais leaves are light dirty olive green which are very dry but don't seem to be falling off but once touched it falls off quite easily. The branches are also quite dry but have some flexibility in them still.
My friend has one too that is doing amazing, it's kept in quite a humid area as its closed off and there is a fountain just behind it. It gets about 2-3 hours of sun as well.
I tried keeping mine in the same area but at this point nothing seems to be helping. It is now spring time in South Africa.
Some advice and help to caring and nurturing this poor thing back to health will definitely do me good as it is like my baby.

10 minutes searching through the forum will show you that no one recommends soaking your plants in water.Estiaan wrote: I heard that taking the plant and soaking it in water for 10-20mins helps with hydrating it.
Sounds your plant died some time ago. You've listed the things you've done, but there's one thing you didn't do: post a picture.

Posted 8 years 4 months ago #25667Now you can read up more about bonsai, join a club in your area, think about buying new, better trees...

It seems like everything you did was wrong; over-watered it, kept moving it around, repotted it in winter, but that is to be expected from people new to bonsai. Don't feel too bad about it.

Thank you for the help.
The branches still have some green under them and if I'm not mistaken after reading on another bonsai website, with the olive tree it could apparently take up to 6-9 months before noticing actual change or improvement. Is that true?

Pretty much all soil must be dry, only the core a little moist. If you get no new growth over the next 6-8 weeks, consider it a loss
Thank you for the help will keep that in mind.
Any how about the light situation? Normal sun or just morning sun and afternoon shade?
