Hi everyone!

I recently purchased a ficus retusa (I guess..) and its trunk is all covered in moss.Even the smallest branches hava some of it. I don't find it to be good looking and I'm wondering how can I get rid of it. Does it actually hurt the tree? There might be topic about it already but Im afraid my bonsai needs an urgent help.

PS: How old can it be? It is 70cm high from the top of the soil.

Thanks in advance

That's not moss, that's a mold.

As you got it recently, I' d take it back and ask for a refund - or another tree.
The age... not sure why that's important, but it is not old.

Thanks for your reply. Its not important, just the salesman told me its over 30. I assume it is 6-8 years old max.
Oh so it is mold. Great. Is it hard to get rid of? I really want to help this tree.

I would turn it right back but I live in Hungary, and it is kinda impossible here. They would not do it. They would say it had mold when I bought it, so why did I buy it in the first place? (Which is obviously true, but I did not think it through and I am not an expert.)

You can try scrubbing it with a wet (clean) soft toothbrush.

I don't see why they wouldn't return it, but I don't know too much about 名媛直播 salespeople in Hungary.

Shouldn't be too hard. Use a soft toothbrush and a jet of water. Be careful not to damage the bark.
However, do note that the mold is probably a result of something else - like

Also note I'm seeing a photo only, I cannot see the tree itself, so I can be wrong. Wait for others to confirm - or not.

Because you did not see, they sold you a sick tree and they lied about its age.

If I gave it back they will treat it as they treated before. If it is not fatal to the tree and I can save it, I would choose to keep it and give it a long healthy life. If you guys say its not worth it and impossible to turn it healthy, then I will give it a try to refund it to the store.

Anyways do I need any chemical or non chemical material? Or is it enoughto scrub it with soft brush? It has some aphid like bugs onthe surface of soil.

Looks like dried-out algea to me. Stuff that grows on the plant in the place where they grew it; Somewhere in the wet tropics. I would not worry about it. It is not harming the tree.

Giving the trunk a rinse .. why not. I do not see the need for it, but it won't hurt it.

Age is alwyas hard. But over 30? Nah, very unlikely. I would also guess less than 10, probably more like 4, 5 (assuming tropics grown)

I simply fiind it ugly. Tiger bark does not show because of dried out black something. And it is confusing if its algae or mold.

I'm going to agree with LB, but it doesn't matter. The method to remove it is the same.
