Posted 13 years 9 months ago #88I've searched in a book of mine where a list is with repot-times. For the Azalea and Rhododendron the best time to repot is in spring after the flowering.
But you have winter Azalea's, so they normally flower in the winter. Because none of you did, I think you should repot them just in spring, normally you need to repot them after flowering, but if they didn't flower (maybe because the cutting need to gain some strength again, and had not enough energy for the flowers), I would just repot them in spring.
Anyone other ideas?

Posted 13 years 9 months ago #90But if you think of it, the best time of repotting the tree is the time where the tree can lose some roots-->can get less energy. So you can repot it when the tree don't use much energy. So after flowering the tree don't need to keep the flowers in life, but in late spring the tree starts to get more twigs, so that means more energy to keep all those twigs in life.
This is what I thought about it, so after flowering, but before they really get more twigs. So that's between end of flowering and end of spring I think. Or maybe just in winter before the flowering begin..
It's a difficult question..

Posted 13 years 9 months ago #127In my opinion, repotting is best done just after flowering-late May to early June in temperate regions. It is also sometimes done in spring, before the buds burst. Autumn repotting is not so good. It is not necessary to repot every year, but only when the plants are found to be pot-bound.
In addition to that water is given to young plants three or four times a day in spring, summer, and autumn; to old plants, twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. In warm weather it is good to syringe the plants.
Thanks and regards,

My mother actually swears on doing it in winter time right before the flowering begins... she once explained to me why but unfortunately I can't remember. I am going to ask her tomorrow though because it is really interesting and I started getting interested in the art of bonsai since a couple of weeks, now that my Mum sent me one via . I became totally attached to it. Once I know the secret of why to cut in winter before the flowering I am going to tell you. Guess it is going to be on Monday
