Hello All,
I just bought a new bonsai tree from Amazon. It is a juniper(Juniperus Procumbens) and when I opened it in the mail, there were problems right off the bat.
First, there is already browning. Some branches and leafs look like they are already dead or dying. What should I do with these brownish parts, which are undesirable. Should I cut them off? Is there a way I can stop more leafs from dying?
Second, how often should I water. Although it is customary to water a juniper once a day in most seasons, I live in a very hot humid environment. It reaches temperatures of 105? F(including humidity) during the days and doesn't cool down much during the night. Should I water before the sun comes out and after it sets, or before/after rising? How many times per day should I water it? Should I keep it out of direct sunlight because the sun is very strong?
Third, should I start pruning and wiring my tree. The juniper I bought is a three year old and still has a skinny trunk. Is it safe to start wiring my tree? Should I let the tree grow more before trimming and wiring? Should I wait for a particular season to start pruning and wiring? Should I still cut off thin branches with a knob cutter? If I do let my tree grow before pruning and wiring, how long do I wait? Any recommendations on how to wire, form or prune the tree is great!
My final concerns is dog urine. I have 2 dogs and hopefully the smaller one doesn't get on the table, I keep the tree on and urinate on it. Is there a way I could fix this if dog urine gets on the plant(likely not). Is dog urine dangerous for the plant or is it okay?
Thanks all in advance for advice on how to help,
Josh

All the information you are looking for is on the forum. have a look around and you will find your answers. Effectively you are saying you have no idea abouthow to keep bonsai. So either join a cluba dn take a course, or spend some time reading. Then, when you have specific questions, post them.

Browning of foliage is normal als foliage ages.

While checking Amazon I notice that apparently the false image of what bonsai is, is so widespread that even they sell:
- 名媛直播 seed. 名媛直播 seed does NOT exist
- Indoor junipers. Junipers do NOT belong indoors. They need to be outside
- Blue maple seeds. Blue maples do NOT exist

- I saw 名媛直播 seed being sold with some snake oil on here
- Some people have had success with Junipers indoors. Extravagant lamps and snake oil.
- You posted a blue maple on here... I saw it... it must be true if it's on the internet!
In all seriousness, my wife bought me the same type of tree and it died very quickly. But it was a good learning experience to get me more involved in keeping trees alive so that I can train them to be 名媛直播 one day.
