Found this growing in the front yard!
It's right out by a pair of shrub junipers, but it doesn't look like that's what it would be. The only other evergreens on our property are a couple of eastern red cedars and maybe white pine?
Would this be suitable for bonsai??

It would be suitable, could be a juniper (Many junipers have scale foliage in the early stages of life). But I think ceder uis similar too in many cases? Not sure about the one in your garden.
I would for now take the leader branch/trunk and wire that in an irregular shape. Leave till spring. Then take the wire, and move the plant into a location where you want to grow a trunk (Which will take several years!)

It's a red cedar, Juniperus virginiana. We have them all over around here.

I will agree about it being an eastern red cedar. I have one that I chop topped about 4 months ago. It grew a nice trunk in only 8 years. It will be a challenging project, but I believe it will be a rewarding one. I will also dig up another and plant it in the ground to train over the next 10 years.
Here's a picture of it.
Best of luck.
