Shade, indoor, dry climate... that's going to be hard.
First, could you tell us what it is you killed?
Also, why not grow a tree outside? Alberta Spruce... guess that does well in Alberta?

Pam wrote: Yes I have lots of trees outside in fact that is what is blocking the sun, I love the privacy but wish I had more sun coming through as I face south but the trees are very large. I do have a small terrarium that I could use. Would a ficus work?
I meant growing bonsai outside
The reason I asked what it is you killed was that, if that was a ficus, I would not recommend a ficus.
Ficus could work - but let's wait for the ficus expert.
A jade tree might work as well - though they're not really that good for bonsai IMHO.

If a Jade doesn't survive, I think nothing will. I have cuttings at the back of the house, where they get little light, and they still grow.
Honestly, I think 'shaded', 'indoors', 'bonsai' and 'easy' is just not going to give a match. Better try a suitable tree that you can grow in its natural environment - outdoors.
