Sadly, I think this is probably a familiar story. I bought what I thought is an adorable start for a bonsai tree at Walmart. I knew it was a gamble. It does not take a genuis to see that the plants are not well cared for. I bought it anyway. After researching online all night, I went about repotting my little tree the next day. This was yesterday. It was awful. My little tree had five roots smothered in very wet soil. It looks healthy with an abundance of green leaves, even some new leaves. All the leaves are in a cluster on top of the obviously cut off trunk. With the roots this way am I just waiting for him to die? What else do I need to do for this tree? I think it is a Pachira tree? That is only a guess after following the steps to id my tree. I read a ton of information. Most was directed at healthy trees. Please, direct me to info or best suggestions that may help my tree. Should i put it in a plastic bag? Any advice is appreciated.

Can't tell without a photo.

Note that what Wallmart sells, on this page usually is not considered bonsai, certainly not if it is such a braided money tree or a ficus ginseng.

What you have in your avatar really doesn't look like a bonsai. I can't see what type of plant it is, the image is far too small. You could attach a bigger one.

It looks like this, and if it indeed does look the same, it's a Pachira, but it is not a bonsai.

I'm pretty certain that it is a pachira. It looks much like the pictures posted except the leaves are smaller. Yes, it is a stick with leaves. I suppose I should seek out a garden forum that could possibly give ideas on keeping this little tree alive. Thank you.

This website even has guidelines for Pachira.
