I was gifted my azalea, I thought, ignorantly you shouldn't water bonsai too often, so my leaves have all gone brown. There is still bounce in branches, is it too late? I had not fed it before either, I have just purchased some feed.
If there is hope, should I trim off brown leaves?

Fertiliser is a waste of time. If it is all brown leaves then it is probably gone, but where have you kept it? If it has been in a sunny place in the gardn then it should have been fine. It takes a lot to overwater. More likely that it got very dry at some point. How long have you had it?

It has been outside, sunny area. So I'm guessing too dry. Foolishly didn't realise it had to stay moist. Had it about six months ...

If you can leave it, I would keep it watered and hope. It is possible it might come back, although I would not bet on it. It would depend on how long it was dry for, if it was just a few hours then it might be ok, but if it was longer then doubtful.

I have an azalea and would love to help you as much as I can. Can you post some pictures?
I've had success with
-watering it with collected rain water and filtered water.
-fertilizing it with azalea specific fertilizer.
-3-4 hours of direct sun light a day.
- and for interest, I keep some pine needles at the base of the tree.
It's only in a training pot, and I've only trimmed it in the early spring.

I just don't understand your signature.
"-Chickens eat seeds."
Chickens eat just about anything, that don't eat them first, is there some profound wisdom, that I may have missed out on in all my years?

You should not water to often. You are right. But you should water enough though.
Chances are very good that this plant is a goner. It happens. Keep watering for another 4 weeks. If you see no changes in the right direction, sto pwatering and find a compost heap
