I want to start a number of maples from seed. If I understand correctly the "trueness to type" is the mix of genetics from more than one tree resulting in offspring that could be possibly true to the disired tree or possibly not.
I'm wondering if a person were to buy seeds of a "desired type" will some in the group usualy be true to that type and what percentages would one expect. Lets say... From twenty seeds, what are the odds they will all be non true to type?
I just dont want to waste time and money with seeds if they wont be what I ordered. On the other hand... I cant seem to find a whole lot in the way of established maples in my area.

Very few japanese maples varieties grow true from seed. If you want the real deal, get them from cuttings.
