So, I kinda bought 23 trees yesterday, mostly all different. They were on mega clearance and could not pass them up, I had to rent a truck just to get one so I bought 23 instead. I am going to be using them to practice different techniques on. Mostly air layering and grafting. The trouble is they are all 4-10 foot tall and the Chicago winds are blowing one over every few minutes. I am wondering how much foliage needs to stay on the top to help with these techniques. cutting them all shorter right away will make them less top heavy. but less of a power plant on top to fuel all the healing and root growth I will need. wiring and staking them all to the ground will require another shopping trip and neutralize some of that mega discount. I am going to put a big rock in each of them but i fear that will not be enough.
Any genius ideas? besides returning the trees

I had this vision of being able to just grab a pot and bring it to the workstation. But, ...planting them in the ground would solve the problem, It would also just put me out in the sun in a chair to do any work. More comfort for the trees but less comfort for me. I guess thats the way to go.
Sometimes genius ideas are also just the most obvious, and invisible right in front of your face. :silly:
