I was just wondering what you all do to keep the trees alive when you have to go away. I know the best solution, of course, is to have someone come in and check the trees. either a house sitter or someone similar. What if you can't do that? What about automatic watering systems? I know, they won't do for extended periods of time, but what about a week or two weeks for example?

For shorter periods of time (a few days) I use a garden sprinkler. I am trying to get a watering system setup, but realized that individual plant based drips do not work. My outside foset does not provide enough pressure for all my trees.

One tree died (a small one..), two others are in 'sick bay' (under the hedge, in the shadow, where they only get morning sun).

So... she forgot to water?.

She underestimated the amount of rain and did not water every day.

ah. Classic. rain gets mostly the surface. Happened to me; last month it was raining for 3 days straight so I said "why bother". Next thing, my forsythia look as if it was crying (the downward leaves). I watered, next day it was happy.
