My parents live next to an elderly couple that had a tree similar to this in their front yard. Never thought about actually putting it in the ground. If my wife and I find a place to call home for good I may end up doing that. Appreciate the info. I'll stay from pruning it, but given it's pretty overgrown in one direction is there anything I can do with that? Wire it to bend the other way?

You could consider that the beginning of a cascade style.
Don't wire, first let the tree establish itself.

There are amazing videos on YouTube for junipers. And I believe leatherback or bkirkland posted a great one on styling junipers here. The big most important thing to learn is, a juniper must be healthy and stablished, with vigorous growth to be styled. This can take years for a juniper. Never repot and style the same season. Either repot or style.

Let your tree grow, take care of it, make it strong and healthy. Then once it is stablished and healthy you can start styling.
