Ginkgo Indors...? was created by FicusCaricaLover

I am not blessed with a big yard so I have to keep my bonsai indoors. I have currently a decent amount of bonsai in training and I recently came across some really attractive bonsai material in the nursery. It's a ginkgo biloba and it already looks like a bonsai tree, all I need to do is put it in a pot and trim some leaves. But the real question is if keeping one indoors would be safe. I know some trees like junipers and other evergreens need to stay outside, but I really want to ask somebody with experience. Feel free to reply if you have kept ginkgo before.

Ginko are hardy. Depending on what country you are in they may need a bit of protection.

Deciduous trees belong outside too - but actually ALL trees belong outside, there are none that evolved to live indoors.

but I really want to ask somebody with experience.

I have two of 'm, outside.

I also understand that deciduous trees need to stay outside. I don't think evolution is the correct word either. Adaptation would be more appropriate. Would keeping the tree outdoors for the winter work? Thanks for the help.

Then why do you ask if they can be kept indoors?

I don't think evolution is the correct word either. Adaptation would be more appropriate.

Thanks. I 'm happy to learn you know so much! A bit surprised though that you're asking questions, in stead of sharing your unmeasurable knowledge with us.

'Evolved' is the word I intended to use and it is correct.

Would keeping the tree outdoors for the winter work?

No.

Thanks for the help.

You're welcome

I may know a decent amount, but I am still just a kid. I came here to learn as much as I possibly can. Thanks for the compliment! I think i'll stick with more indoor tree species, like junipers! (just kidding)

As growing real bonsai can take many years, you have a big advantage there :)

I came here to learn as much as I possibly can.

Very good. You'll find that people here are actually quite willing to answer questions - as long as they are not the same, repetetive questions every beginner has asked many times already.

I think i'll stick with more indoor tree species, like junipers! (just kidding)

:)

If you are really into bonsai and want to develop further, no doubt at a certain point in time you will want to switch to outdoor trees. One reason is that you will get better results - but also there's far more choice.

thanks, I don't mind to have multiple of the same kind of tree. as long as they are in different styles I'm ok. I still don't have a ficus carica yet... Kinda ironic how my name say's how much I love em. I have one outside but making a thick trunk is hard.
