Thanks for the feedback Auk! Much appreciated. I have an unheated insulated closet attached to the house I can place it in. It stays above freezing since it's connected to the house.

Daytime temps will be above freezing so it'd just be at night

sorry, but a closet is not out side, just set it in a sunny spot, outside. If it dies go get another. Even in the winter some trees need sunshine.

Don't worry too much about it.

Juniperus is hardy in general. Put it in a sheltered spot. The closet you describe would be fine for those few nights you still muight have see frost. The rest of the time, just keep it outside. For the next 4 weeks or so, protect from strong winds and direct midday sun. After that, it should be able to deal with anything thrown at it, except for true hot conditions (Think, arizona summer).

Junipers are probably the strongest group for bonsai, and take a lot of abuse, as long as they are outside. Get this one over the next month, and you should be golden. Too wet is worse than too dry.

New here, trying not to jack your thread Kortney. Not sure if this will do it, bout to find out I guess.

I received this plant because I am usually do well at problem solving with other plants. It's very sentimental to my friend and he has left it in my care. He lives in a small town right next to the water tower. On occasion they shock the hell out of the tower with chlorine. It makes his water a yellowish brown color and wreak of bleach. He was giving that to it and now is suffering.

I've had it for a few days now, I have excellent well water that only contains slightly high amounts of Calcium. Out of the faucet it has an avg of 7.3pH, let it sit over night it goes down to about 6.8pH. I have pH Down if that's too high. The only thing that I have done with it is try to flush the Chlorine out by flooding it but that is proving difficult with no holes in the bottom of the vase. I have it under a 400w MH with my veggie seedlings on a 16hr lights on schedule. Stays 72*F, couple days got to 82 in there. I can switch over to HPS after my seedlings are outside. It is getting slightly greener but I don't know where to go from here.

He wanted me to throw some Fox Farm Big Bloom (.01-0.3-0.7) in it along with some Cal-Mag Plus (2-0-0). Simply because that is what I have on hand. I don't want to just pour random crap into it and see what happens. I would like to rejuvenate the plant if possible. Any help ID'ing the plant and pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated. (don't judge me by the junk directly behind it. 'Monster', my 2yr niece destroyed 76 plants that's what's left, lol).

That's a juniper, and it's dead. Sorry, man, that thing's toast. As was said to me, 'You prune some, you water some, you train some, you kill some." It happens.

Just fyi, this juniper would be considered a mallsai. Do some research (or have your friend do it) on the differences between mallsai & bonsai. This forum has many links about the subject, and there's more good information out there. It will point you in the right direction should you, or your friend, continue pursuing this wonderful hobby. Proper soil mixtures, pots (with drainage holes ;)), tree material, aesthetic, all things to consider for healthy trees.

Learn bonsai, & best of luck.

I'm not sure about that. The photo isn't clear enough. Some junipers can turn brownish in winter and turn back green in spring. As the poster who hijacked this thread says it is getting greener, it may have some life left in it.

No, it wouldn't. It would be considered a young juniper in a pot.

Do some research (or have your friend do it) on the differences between mallsai & bonsai.

Thanks all, it is starting to green up a little. I'll do some more research on the Juniper. I have some diamond bits, think I'll drill a couple drainage holes to aid with the flush of chlorine then try to find some proper nutes to feed it with. Maybe there is still some hope for it.
