Japanese Maple need help!

I got a Japanese Maple around December last year - and soon after the leafs started turning brownish as though it was drying out. I watered it quite frequently at the start when I got it - first thing in the morning, then mildly around lunch and again around 7pm before dark.
After suspecting it was due to over watering, I only watered it in the morning and thereafter if the soil didn't feel moist anymore. I pruned the leafs and cut off most of the "dried" ones, but shortly after the leafs started appearing brown and dried out again.
I'm not sure what the cause is of this. I have another bonsai which is growing without issue, but finding this Japanese Maple to be a bit tricky.
I live in South Africa and got the tree in our summer time - thus temperatures rise to 30+ degrees. I do keep the tree outside in the shade whereby from time to time it may get little late afternoon sun.
Any advice would be appreciated.

It is a very young plant, and I think it is a Trident Maple is that right? I would think in those temperatures it could be either getting dry or just plain leaf burn from the sun and heat. It would be better grown in the ground for a few years before starting to train, it is far too small to start now.
