hi all! I have always been interested in the art of bansai tree keeping but never took action on it.

well, here is my first "bonsai" tree. I say that carefully because I'm not sure what plant this is - can anyone help?

What did you conclude based on the species guide on this site?

The reason why you say it carefully shouldn't be because of what plant it is, but how this "bonsai" is shaped.
This may be your first "bonsai", it is not your first bonsai.

this is all true, and thanks for pointing that out. i know nothing about shaping and training a plant to look a certain way. but, at this point i just don't want to kill it. haha taking baby steps.

as for my research, i'm not entirely sure as some of the photos shown in the database seem to show a very matured bonsai but here are my guesses.

1. ficus retusa
2. magnolia stellata
3. ligustrum

but when i compare them to photos, there's something off about mine. mine's either too long and narrow, or not waxy enough, etc.

Try . Not sure though, but of course you could always ask the vendor.

just wanted to say thank you. it's the closest in terms of similarities in appearance so for now, i think ill assume that's what i have. the vendor, a sweet old grandma, lost many of the labels that came with the plants :(
