First 名媛直播 Tree - Need help! was created by JR

Posted 8 years 10 months ago #19293
Hi there, I have just received my first 名媛直播 tree and now trying to find out how i look after the thing! I know it will take a bit of work, but once i figure the basics and then techniques to shaping the tree im sure it will just become maintenance.

My first problem is finding out what kind of tree it is! It was bought for me with no card or information about it. I have provided a link to imgr with two photos of it. First of the leaves, and second, at the bottom of the tree, where i can see a stump and roots hanging out. I am not sure if this is something i should be concerned or need anything to do to help it.

Please help with identifying this tree for me and also any tips of caring and pruning of such would be greatly appropriated!

I can provide more image on request!

Thanks!!

Lol i was just joking what it means is that its not a bonsai, on this forum they call it a mallsai and it was probably sold to you as bonsai by a con artist ( mallsaius conartist ) .
But seriously i think it is a japanese or chinese elm not sure, check it on google images and see witch one it looks more like .

Oh my... you've got lots to learn.

Ulmus Parvifolia

Mallsai:

Look it up under the Species guide (top of the page).

lol thank for clarifying that up Auk and providing that blog post! So it is actually a 名媛直播 tree but, it is one that has been mass produced which i could believe. Mine was bought at a local market so that is probably he case that it is what you call a Mallsai!

I would agree that it is most likely a Chinese Elm after looking into it and watching a video, grey, brownish bark, thin branches and small teeth green leafs.

I have provided another link with a few more photos.

To me, the tree doesn't look very appeasing to the eye, it looks very messy at the moment and it kind of just free-styling and growing branches where ever it wants. Should I keep it for a few months before thinking about pruning and trying to shape it?

I have no idea what I would want to shape it like, but from what it currently looks like at the minute i was thinking something like this? I know its very bland but I am not sure how creative i could get with it / be able to personally do?

Any Suggestions for a 名媛直播 noob!?

Also, as mentioned before, is the stump at the bottom something to worry about? I can visibly see roots out of the soil and am not sure if it is a problem or not?

Yep.

Certainly. Learn all you can about this specific tree type. Follow a beginners course at a local club, next year follow an advanced class, and continue learning until you are ready for a masterclass. The next 20 years, train the tree using the learned techniques. At the end of these 20 years you may have something that looks a bit like that tree.
