No you don't. An even number is perfectly acceptable - though it may be a bit harder to get the required asymmetrical look with an even number of trees.

I too agree this is useful material. However, you'll need to turn them into bonsai first, before creating a forest. Currently, the foliage is too dense and the canopy too large (except the smalle one). They are in big, deep pots and probably have large root systems that need to be trained first.

Do not start creating that forest before you have a smaller, but healthy, root system.

I like these very much! I have a Kingsville that I'm slowly pruning to form it. I got it a while ago, already in a rustic pot. I plan on repotting it in a larger pot this spring to hopefully get better growth out of it. They are both already beautiful. Good luck!
