Hello! I have a ginseng ficus (i think!) that is in desperate need of reshaping. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I have let it grow freely over two years and, likely as a result of low-lighting, two layers of leggy canopy have grown. Should I:
1) hack off the top canopy (severing the main trunk) and attempt to grow it as two separate shorter trees (via propogation).
2) keep the tree intact with two distinct canopy pods and attempt to fill it out
3) other suggestion
As an added bit of information, I have a new sunblaster T5 HO flourescent for it and my other trees.
Any suggestions are appreciated!

Honestly, there isn?t much you can do to turn this plant into a regular, decent bonsai. This is not and won?t ever be regarded as one. Sure, you can do all the trimming, repotting, wiring, branch bending or anything else you might come up with, but none of those actions will do the trick. However, if you actually perform all of these things what you would be doing is improving your skills and that is a good thing. Keep learning, digging for info and next time buy or get a regular nursery plant that meet certain (not the Ficus Ginseng or the young Juniper cutting), one that with work, knowledge, time and patience might become a bonsai indeed.
Oh, and for this plant suggestions... I?d treat it as any other regular house plant or maybe, yes, take some cuttings and try to propagate them as individuals... Do take into consideration that for further development, this would take longer than buying a nursery plant.
