Hi everyone

I am new to the forum and having read some of the posts, you all seam like the kind of people who may be able to help me.

I have a 25yo Black Pine that is very dear to me. Last month we experienced an unusually very hot day with temperature over 34 degrees C. I regret that after I had watered my bonsai in the morning I left her on the ground behind a glass balustrade which I believe further magnified the heat of the day and has badly burnt every needle on the tree.

Can anyone advise if there is anything I can do for this tree? Will she survive?

I have attached a couple of photos showing the tree prior to the burning and how she looks now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I can't say that I'm an expert on the topic (it's never happened to me), but I think you may have "cooked" its roots. you can check to see whether they're "cooked" by slipping the pot off and checking the colour of the fine roots. if they're white then they're perfectly healthy and you have some other problem, if they're brown then they have been damaged and, I'm afraid, your tree may die.

Again, I'm not an expert, so don't take my word for it.

THat does not look good. If a pine or juniper gets to that stage, there is normally no saving. These species rely on their foliage for growth. Without fooliage, no growth (This is opposite from deciduous trees which push their groowth from the roots).

Keep it in afternoonsun for a week or so. If no green returns to the leaves, it is a goner, I am afraid.

Agreed that it doesn't look good and that it seems it is beyond the point of no return.
I'm not sure about the advise to wait for color to return to the leaves. I don't think that happens.

Still, if it was my plant, I'd keep it until the end of spring, hoping there are still buds that will develop.

Chances of that happening however seem... very low.
