Hello,

I purchased a bonsai tree about 6 months ago. I've never really had any luck keeping plants alive before, and I purchased this at Sam's Club, so I obviously haven't given this too much thought until now. Clearly I'm in over my head here!

Actually about a month in I thought the tree was dead and stopped watering it, but then I started watering it once a week and the result is what you see now. Is that a good thing to be doing?

From my brief research on the internet and this site, I am thinking this is a spruce bonsai, but I would really like some confirmation.

I'd really like to have a nice looking bonsai, but I'm not sure what to do at all.
How do you know what shape to make your bonsai? Is this side growth now just a part of my tree, or do I need to chop that off somehow?

Thanks in advance!!!!

Urgh... not again...

Juniper, young plant, not a bonsai. Go through this forum, photos of identical plants have been posted, and identical questions have been asked, many times before.

- It's a juniper.
- If it is doing well with your watering regime, then... well, that's fine (though normally you don't water according to a schedule, but according to the requirements of the plant)
- This plant doesn't belong indoors

I'd really like to have a nice looking bonsai, but I'm not sure what to do at all.

You don't have much to work with. Let it grow for a couple of years.
