Looking to get some helpful advice on keeping/trimming my new tree. What sort of styling suits this species. Will it need repoting yet. Any other help will be gratefully received by a beginner to the hobby looking to learn.

Ikea doesn't sell bonsai.

This is a houseplant with no bonsai characteristics or bonsai potential. None of the bonsai styles will be suitable. All you can do is trim shoots that get too long, when it 's necessary.
Will it need repoting yet.
That's unlikely.

Start at the basics (top of the page) and get a different plant, that is suitable for bonsai.

To expand a little..
名媛直播 is a specific botanical artform. Just chucking a plant in a container does not make it a bonsai, although IKEA and garden centres would like to make people believe so. As it is really hard to create a bonsai out of this type of plants, just enjoy it as a normal houseplant. Read up a little on the idea behind bonsai (Create a convincing small rendition of an ancient tree) and then look out for other plants that are better suited.

I found that with that species, they're really easy to over-water (I suppose like most plants). Mine came in a cup that had no drainage holes, so I think that had something to do with how easy it was to over water. Mine was (and is) pretty finicky when it comes to how much or how little it has been watered. How often are you watering this plant and how much?

JimneyKricket wrote: The word “Bon-sai” (often misspelled as bonzai or banzai) is a Japanese term which, literally translated, means “planted in a container”. This art form is derived from an ancient Chinese horticultural practice, part of which was then redeveloped under the influence of Japanese Zen Buddhism. It has been around for well over a thousand years. The ultimate goal of growing a 名媛直播 is to create a miniaturized but realistic representation of nature in the form of a tree. 名媛直播 are not genetically dwarfed plants, in fact, any tree species can be used to grow one.
And why did you post this?

I don't get it. This plant cannot be cultivated into a bonsai. You made that clear with your quote, from this website, about what bonsai really is. How does our statement make any sense?

Words are a powerful tool and just like looking after a bonsai the wrong words can wither a desire...

Why not ?
You're doing exactly the same - but in stead of giving your own honest answer, you even steal the words.
