So, this guy was my 1st bonsai. An online purchase shipped from NYC to upstate, ny (wasn't too shocked by travel). Since then I've made all the usual noob mistakes (overwater, underwater, too little light, too much light, pruned to nothing, allowed soil/trunk to mold, etc).

1st image is from November 13th (one month after I got it)

2nd image is from today (December 4th)

There's no hope is there? I scraped away some of the bark to see if it was still alive but, even if it is, I dont feel like it will be for long after the murderous gash I took out of it.

I knew this 1st one would be a learning exercise so I'm not too broken up about it. I'll be getting a new one and using what I learned. I'm just wondering if I should keep trying to save it or pull the plug.

Thanks for your help! Been lurking around this site for a little while now but this is my 1st post.

... hacked of the top, damaged the trunk, wired without knowing how or why... poor thing. Another victim of someone who couldn't wait.

There's no hope is there?

The lower two have-been branches are gone. The top seems to have buds that have not dried out yet? Then there's hope.
Not that I expect it'll survive this ordeal.

alright, easy there. we all get eager and make mistakes.

the wiring was done to pull the limb down, the photo was taken, and within 2 hours I found all the proper information on how to wire a bonsai and removed it.

"hacked of[f] the top" is how it was sent to me. I was a little disappointed by that as well but hey, it was $8.

wait...why am i justifying myself. thank you for telling me there is hope. I'm not touching this thing for anything other than water from here on out! I promise. To answer your question though, the buds have not dried out but seem to be going the other direction and are wilting. The soil is moist but not flooded.

You wrote you've visited this forum before so you must have expected my kind and subtle reply.

That is not a good sign... but nothing you can do but wait.

I do hope you only brought it indoors for the pic? It Should be outside.
As long as one branch has vibrant green foliage there is hope. Just stop fiddling.
