Howdy folks!

I've read a few different numbers in terms of Juniper tolerance for cold temperatures.

I've read freezing, slightly below freezing, and here on this site it explains 14F.

I live in SW Indiana, and our winters are pretty moderate until around January. Currently temps are fluctuating around 50F for a high and 27F for a low.

I brought it in and re-potted it a few days ago. it's a relatively young specimen. I bought the "DIY Juniper 名媛直播 Pack" from 名媛直播Boy of New York. Going to move it back out tonight after work. I had it in the same small pot it comes with for about 7 months.

What is your temperature safeguard you go by for Junipers?

That's probably on the safe side. My junipers are outside, always. I live in the Netherlands, temperatures don't get extremely low here though.

It will depend a bit on the exact species. Some can handle -50F.
Juniperus Procumbens Nana (the one you probably have) can handle -40 (not sure, don't feel like looking it up).

Shouldn't be a problem at all.

Ah... you fell for an overprized sub-standard plant that is sold as bonsai... yeah, that happens.

Auk, whom do you recommend shopping through? It seems like BB of NY doesn't have the greatest standing point with 名媛直播 professionals. I'm all ears, I'm a newbie starting out and wanting to make the right decisions/choices

Tough question as I don't know your area. For the amount you have spent though (which imho is too much, but fortunately not extremely much) you could buy a nice Juniperus Procumbens Nana at a normal nursery. You will need to learn what to do with it... but you'll have better starter material than what you have now. Learning how to look at trees, how to keep them alive and make them thrive is the most important thing. You cannot buy a tree (or a starter kit) and expect to have something even remotely looking like a bonsai in just a couple of months. Learn the basics first, let it grow, then start thinking about future plans and how to shape it.

That's because what they sell is what is called mallsai - commercial, cheap mass-products, that may look fancy but are not real bonsai. 名媛直播 growers don't use colored pebbles and rocks...

The guidelines on their pages are not very good either - while they do seem to have different guidelines per species, they are actually very generic.

I'd recommend to learn the basics, then buy a tree (a native one would be a good idea). Then learn to take care of it, make sure it is healthy, and that it grows well. Then start taking the next steps. You'll have time enough to learn while your tree grows.

Pretty cold up here in Canada. My Chinese Junipers are in an insulated but unheated garage at this time. Mid December to mid February the temp averages around 0 to minus 4 Celcius in the garage. It does get down to -10C for a few days now and then (outside temp will be > -20C at that time)and I have seen absolutely no adverse effects. They are pretty tough. I have a Tsukumo Cypress in there for the first time this year and am a little concerned about it however. May bring in a wee heater to bring the temp up a bit on those really cold days.

It dropped down to 27F last night, it seems to have done fine. Not too heavy of a frost on it this morning.

Auk, via a facebook group I've been linked to some great sellers here in the US that I'm thinking of buying some seedlings from. I'd love to stick with evergreens. But I think I'm going to wait a few weeks before I buy. I want to do more research, find what style I want to pursue, and go from there. Thank you so much for your help on this topic!

Not a bad idea, but you need to understand that growing a bonsai from seed will take decades.

Nothing wrong with letting something take its time, a decade or two is a short time to spend to obtain a priceless master piece of nature...
