I'm new to bonsai and have picked up a small procumbens nana that I'd like to try and bonsai.
Unfortunately, I purchased it before realizing it was an outdoor plant. I've been doing some reading and am trying to determine how to care for it this winter. I have a balcony at my apartment, so I can set it outside but won't be able to plant it in the ground for the winter.
I live in Boston, and the winter's here can get pretty cold. Should I attempt to water when it's slightly warmer to avoid immediately freezing the soil, or should I just water regularly? I'm guessing I should clear the snow from it if it snows a lot?
I'm going to be repotting it instead of leaving it in the plastic container it came in, and was going to use half potting soil, and half sand. Does that sound about right?
I'm still looking for a plant I can bonsai indoors in my bright south facing office window, any suggestions of good plants for this are appreciated. I may make a separate post about this, though.

Repot after winter. Repotting is best done in late spring. Do not use the micture you suggest, but an open mixture which allows good drainage.
Inside you could get a ficus.

Okay, I'll hold off on repotting for now then.
As for the snow, the plant is only slightly larger than my fist, and I was thinking it could prevent proper light from reaching the plant.
