Can anyone help me figure out whats wrong? was created by NSP

Hi, so i have this chinese elm that i got a year ago that was in pretty rough shape, wire scars, wild branches everywhere. Anyway the leaves after they have grown out seem to turn hard and brittle after a few weeks. the tree is still growing new healthy leaves even though this is happening and im watering it just when it needs it, even have a gravel tray thing underneath for humidity. could it be positioning? its on a south facing window so gets most of the days sun. Or could it be something worse? none of my others seem to have this problem and they are doing very well.

I've checked the leaves and such for any signs of insects etc and haven't found anything, i have kept it indoors since i got it though unless there is a draft that is affecting it? was kept at a window with a vent above it.

That yellow/green pattern looks like insufficient fertilization. I did come across something like this before but don't recall exactly if it was Iron or Magnesium that was missing.

Since i can't see your "soil" or know your watering habits I have no way to suggest the frequency at which you should fertilize. Also if there is a vent blowing air directly onto it you might want to get into misting it multiple times a day.

All I can say with the information given is that you should get a nice even and low npk mix with some good secondary and tertiary mineral salts. Some geranium fertilizers are quite good for that and are relatively cheap. Not sure where you're from and if you can get it there but Orus is always a nice addition for sickly trees.

Why not move it away from that vent ?

Misting doesn't help.

Who knows it might be the only window with good solar exposure ;)
Misting in the early morning and late evening before and after the sun starts hitting it does help.

Misting might keep them clean. It is not useful when it concerns humidity.

I fully agree.. half an hour/hour after the misting it's gone again so technically it helps but not in any noticeable percentage :P For that one should of course utilize a drip/humidity tray or a little greenhouse-like contraption for the windowsill. Of which the second option is more advisable for tropicals during the winter since it can keep temperatures more level.

A drip tray is not a humidity tray. They catch drips. They do absolutely nothing for humidity.
However, humidity trays hardly help either.
