Hello,
My girlfriend came home with two trees from Home Depot. I'm hoping to keep them alive, as I know home depot is no place to get bonsais! I'm attaching a picture of both. The one I think is a Ficus? The other I can't find a match. I'm prepared to take all measures to save the trees and any beginner advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

First one is Carmona (Fukien Tea), the other could well be some type of Ficus but I'm not sure

Start by taking of all the * on the surface. All those stones and fake moss just hamper watering.
The read the species sections onf ficus (yes, it is a ficus, a f. retusea-ginseng if I see correctly, the other carmona).

Well... seeing a very recent topic, same fake dead moss, same glued on pebbles, same decorative thingy, I'm going to say the first one is from walmart, and the second one is from walmart.
Were they having a fathersday action or so?

Actually from Home Depot, Auk.
After you removed the shit you need to check the soil. There might be a chance you'll need to change soil to less organic stuff.

Home depot indeed! I'm not sure if there was a sale. How do I determine the correct soil composition? I'm a little bit nervous to re-pot them but I suppose I should. I'll look around the site to find that information. Are there any tips you all would offer for the two?

I would say.. Remove the stones and fake moss, and have a look at the soild below. Maybe post a picture. In most cases you should be fine. Repotting is stressfull for the plant, and -if you are not very experienced growing plants in containers- I would recommend finding someone who can helkp you the first time. It is not dificult, but requires a certain 'feel' for it.

Here's a picture of the soil, let me know if you need a different picture. (I removed all moss and stones for both plants, not just this one). I live in New York city and have no bonsai friends, where do you suggest to go for re-potting help?
