I just received my bonsai for Father's Day. I believe it is a privet. Can somebody verify for sure??? It came from Wal Mart and they are obviously horrible at letting the consumer know what they have lol

Yep, privet. A decorative plant in a decorative pot with all kinds of decorative thingies to make it look like something it isn't.

They are not only horrible at what they are letting you know, but also at selling bonsai. That pot... does it have a drainage hole? What soil is it in? I guess the brown stuff is only a top layer? I wouldn't be surprised if it was glued on. The green stuff, I think that's dead moss? I'd remove all that.

Thanks for the quick reply! It does have drainage holes on the bottom. The rocks (which are glued) and "moss" are some sort of an attempt at being decorative. I will be removing them. The soil looks to be plentiful.
