Please Help my Carmona 名媛直播 was created by Willow57

Hello I am in the UK and I am new to keeping bonsai trees, I have a carmona bonsai tree which I was giving for christmas 2014 I've heard they are quite hard, I give it plain rain water when the top of the soil feels dry and I feed it liquid bonsai food every 10 days in the spring and summer

it has been getting quite a bit of new growth and seemed to be healthy but recently its gotten some yellow leaves
its also been growing what look like flower buds but non of them have actrally flowered,

I normally leave it soaking in rain water for 10 minutes every week but I accidently left it in for 45 minutes about 5 days ago :S not sure if thats the cause of the yellow leaves

I'm not sure how much sun light is best for it, is it okay to leave it in a very sunny south facing window all day? or would the midday sun be too much for it?

I'm also not sure if its got very good soil, it seems to stay damp quite a long time.

here are photos of the tree

Looking at your pics the tree you possess, right now, seems healthy to me. Do have in mind that trees lose their leaves and that doesn?t necessarilly mean that they are in poor health.

Now, that said, I strongly believe that right now your tree would be more susceptible to suffer from overwatering than from the lack of water. I?ll explain myself... The substrate your tree is currently in I believe is rather bad and eventually won?t do your tree any good. It lacks propper draining and it won?t oxygenate the roots propperly. Features that soil mixes must meet you can find it here:

Also, the way you said things it seems that you are keeping your tree indoors and this is a poor health sentence with time for any tree, and even a death sentence for those trees that require a dormant period. Right now is Spring and Summer is almost here... A perfect time to have your trees outdoors and your Carmona won?t be the exception. Put it ouside and see it thrive. Sunlight won?t hurt, on the contrary it would help a great deal.

As for the fertilizing regime... I feel rather uncomfortable advising on this subject every time. I know the way I do it with my trees and they seem to like it. So, I?ll just express an opinion here and will live you a short article from this site for you to read and understand the basics of fertilizing...

My opinion: I rather using a slow release solid fertilizer than a liquid one. It feels to me that I have a better control over it and that I won?t overfertilize my plants (that doesn?t mean I don?t use liquid fertilizers at all, just that I prefer using the other kind ;) ). As for the frequency... That will vary according the species, the time of the year, the stage of development of tree in question and so on...

The article:

Hope I might have been of help,

Alain

Looks fairly healthy to me - mine does drop dead leaves regularly , they tend to come in very poor soil and repotting into any free draining mix will be of benefit. They are not IMO a tree for outdoors - they do not like a wide temperature variation, fairly constant warmth & humidity with plenty of natural light is essential. I use a balanced cheap liquid feed at normal dilution strength weekly (when I remember). The flowers are tiny and don't last long. They have a reputation for being difficult to keep but I have had mine for nearly 3 years now and it does really well.

Thanks for your help :) I want to get it into better soil as soon as I can, is it ok to repot it at this time of year? or do I need to wait?

I'm going to say it is not necessary to repot it. It looks healthy. The soil doesn't look that bad.
Note that for "indoor" plants, different rules for the soil mix apply.
