I was given a Chinese Elm as a gift about 6 weeks ago and I think I may have overfed it.
The leaves are falling off but new ones are growing.
Help please!

We cannot see the tree, its location, the soil or its condition.
We do not know how you water it, when you water it, how you fertilize and what you fertilize it with.
We do not know where it was purchased.
We do not even know if it is a Zelkova. A chinese elm is an Ulmus Parvifolia, not a Zelkova.

How exactly do you expect anyone to be able to help you ?

I'm new to this site and it's the first time I've owned a 名媛直播 tree and I'm afraid I felt your reply was rather aggressive. The label says Chinese Elm (Zelkova semi-evergreen) and it was bought for me from a garden centre. I have followed the instructions to water it frequently, not to overwater it but I realise I mis-read the feeding instructions and have overfed it with Chrysal 名媛直播 plantfood without diluting it. Please do not worry about replying.

The label is wrong. A Chinese elm is Ulmus Parvifolia. The Japanese elm is Zelkova.

I realise I mis-read the feeding instructions and have overfed it with Chrysal 名媛直播 plantfood without diluting it.

Thanks. That's useful information. How long ago was that?

I last fed it one week ago.
I would take it back to the garden centre if it's the wrong description but it was a gift so I don't have the receipt.

The description in this case is not so important. Care guidelines for both are the same.

I cannot see if fertilizing was the real cause, but if you used it pure and undiluted, it is a likely cause.
You could try and thoroughly flush out the roots several times, maybe even try to replace the soil.

Again, this is only based on the limited amount of information I get, so giving advise is not simple.

Hi Welcome to the site :)

Sorry you had a rough welcome with that first reply a little un called for I agree!!!

Chinese elm is a great tree for a beginner and are very hardy and you will have to do a lot wrong to kill them. if that is what it is if it is cold outside you may have to balance where you locate your tree between inside and out or in a green house.
the tree can not tolerate being inside all the time as a beginner I would get as much information of the internet on Chinese elm bonsai and out of beginner bonsai books as possible just double check in which country the information comes from so that you think about the climates and seasons they write about and care of your tree. if it has been cold of late be aware that your tree will loose its leaves. Don't panic and have fun!!
