Yes join a club. You still ave not said where you live. Rather than bu blind why not get to a bonsai nursery? But at least if you must buy off the internet avoid anyone who is not a bone fide bonsai trader. If they can't answer questions then avoid them. ?50 is a good amount for a start, I still say there is no need to get a lot of tools to start, Buy them as you need them, some of the really cheap ones are not good at all. Been there done that.
There is a show coming up in Exmouth and the following week at Failand near Bristol. Then at Hermitage near Newbury on 5th July. Check out the FOBBS web site for your nearest club.

There are no local clubs around me but the link you provided made me think it would be wise to spend a few extra pennies and get better quality. Problem is I have now started looking at even pricier trees (maybe next year as I want to build a moderate collection) Think I will stick with the juniper to start with but have to wait for 3 more weeks until my money comes through and then I will contact the site to see what they have

forgot to mention, all my maple seeds have sunk while soaking so hoping to get good results from them in a couple of months
