I just bought this tree, but it was only labeled as a hinoki false cypress. Can anyone tell me what cultivar it is? If you need more pics, please let me know. Thank you.

We would need a far better quality picture and a very detailed photo of the foliage. Even then, as there are so many varieties of junipers, cypresses and other conifers, it may be hard to determine if it's a hinoki from a photo, let alone which hinoki cultivar.

Nice material, by the way. I see a high-rising literati forest in it.

Perhaps a kabudachi would also be nice. Or a forest, literati forests do not sound very appealing to me, sorry Auk ;)
Got to say literati isn't my fav anyways, so if it'd be mine I would make anything but a literati out of it, but hey, that's personal taste ;)

As Auk says, a more detailed photograph is required to determine species. However, my Chamaecyparis Thyoides 'top point' looks kinda like it, except this one is not pointy like the 'top point'.

Have fun with it, would love to hear more!

It is one tree, so you're right of course, that wouldn't be a forest, but a clump style.
I still see high-rising trees in it, with sparse foliage, especially for the central trunks. Not exactly literati, true.

Would you mind drawing that idea, Auk? It sounds better with the moment ;)
Really would like to know your vision on this project!

I've been looking for examples, but couldn't find a good one. I'll try and draw it...

Testing the attachments. Won't let me add 3, 4 or 5 at once.

Edit:

Looks like the site let me add them two at once after editing my post.

In any case, here are the additional pictures.

Thanks for looking.

Definately not an obtusa either, and I also have no idea what else it can be without just guessing.
I'm actually not sure if it's really a hinoki. Having seen the close ups, I'm not even sure if this is good bonsai material.
