Half their plants are in tropical greenhouses...
Ermmm.... yeah, many times, but I think we have a different understanding of what a tropical greenhouse is (your botanical knowledge being superior to mine, that must be my fault). I'd expect that to be far warmer and humid.
Do you not mean the same as the greenhouses most garden centers are in ? Sure the environment is better there, but it's not so that all houseplants die when you take 'm home.
FYI: I bought an acer buergerianum (end of year sale - you've seen the photo) from Lodder, from the greenhouse, and put it outside. It's alive, buds are growing, seems to be OK.

Not at all, it made me Google

I don't have that much knowledge on that subject, but I did find some things:
Coldhouse: Min. temp. 7 C.
Greenhouse: Min. temp. 10-13 c.
Intermediate house: Min. temp 13-16 c.
Hothouse: Min. temp. 16 c.
I think you meant a Greenhouse - and I think, but am not sure, that a tropcial greenhouse would be a hothouse.
Unless you meant that the tree came from a Intermediate house or hothouse, in which case the difference in climate killed it- and the seller would be to blame, imho.

I had it on a windowsill in my kitchen, Since then I have moved it to the living room and it is sitting outside right now since it's a sunny day. Like I said the past few days have been gloomy and dark so I thought sunlight could be the issue. When I brought it home I watered it generously making sure the soil was nice and moist, and once a day since, and the leaves and soil still feel dry, should i water more?名媛直播Mackem wrote: Where do you have it?
Ahhhhh...I think we know the issue. Maybe you are watering too much. Once a day seems an awful lot.
The quality of the soil must be called into question if the soil is still dry despite heavy watering. What soil DO you have? I would buy asap Akadama or Kanuma on-line. I have tree in Akadama and despite being buffeted by high winds over the autumn and winter and losing some of the top layer of Akadama is still hanging in there and I saw buds on the tree the other day.
Should you water it more? I wouldn't.
Do you feed it?

Not likely to be the cause, if he's only had it for a 'few days' ?

I overlooked this reply...
Do you mean the soil stays dry after watering? Does the soil even absorb any water or does it just run off - or are you giving little amounts of water only?

Posted 10 years 3 weeks ago #14986Currently the tree is in a small bucket of water filled halfway up the pot, and the tree is recovering. About how long should I keep it in there? 24 hours? Until it recovers fully? Thank you for all your help

Well, you said it yourself. You have not watered it at all, you've only misted it.
I also guess that has not really been just a 'couple of days'.

About 2 minutes.
Have you considered other hobbies ?
