Japanese Maple leaves drying up

This is what it looked like when I got it. I took the wiring off and defoliated to 1 set of leaves so that the roots don't have to work harder in case they got hurt.

Hahaha thanks man. If it does lose its leaves now....it should be able to make it through winter and start afresh in spring..?

That pic was taken before the leaves started drying out and tips browning. Sigh...just hope it doesn't die

Thank you all for your comments and help. Just an update. Had it in the shade for most of the day. Soil is quite damp still so won't be watering at all. I have been misting the leaves morning and evening. All the leaves have a very dry feel to touch and have curled their tips upward. The edges of the leaves have gone a greyish brown tinge.
