I think it is some sort of Juniper, but this is my first bonsai. I want to give it proper care so just wanted to see what others thought it was.
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
This looks like a juniper to me too. in any case, treat it as one. Keep it outdoors. Do not leave the plant soaking wet for long periods of time. Give it lots of sunlight.
Not that before it will be a proper bonsai, a lot of work is to be done. Right now, it is not much more than a nice young starter, to put it nicely.

I think Cryptomeria Japonica, but the care regime advised for Juniper is relevant

I have a Cryptomeia Japonica "Monstrosa" and it looks pretty much exactly the same.
