Thanks all.
I'm in the UK, the north-east, where we no longer have seasons and every day brings a different season of it's own .
It was forcast 0 degrees freezing last night, but 20 degree Celsius for Halloween!

Yeah, i live in london, and the forcast said it is going to be the hottet holloween on record. If you have a garden that is great. But the temperature will be averagely cold there, so you can grow hardy species well with no worry. So species like pines, maples, junipers etc are good, i would advise to start off with a kind of juniper as pines will be easier to care for after experience and research. Good luck

Planting trees sounds fine to me, just go for a walk and pick some up. Then you can see what the parent tree looks like. It's going to take me a long time though, even for small ones. Rooting tree cuttings could shave off a year or so, but there's really not much I can do, until spring. Except, read all the stuff I can find on the web. The squirrels keep taking the acorns from my garden though, guess I'll keep some in a jar, with other seeds. Still debating on keeping them in the fridge, or out in the cold.

You can collect a range of seeds now and then stratify them. You can also take juniper cuttings now.
