Hi!
I have a Japanese Cryptomeria which I have in a big pot for about 18 years now.
I would like to put it in a bonsai pot and make some detailing pruning.
But….i am afraid to repot it in a bonsai, worring if this will successful or not for the tree.
What do you believe? And what might be the best procedure to follow for having a successful repot as a bonsai?
Thank you in advance!
Regards
Andreas Liasi

Firstly, welcome. It would be helpful to know where you are. What country? It is the wrong time to be re potting now, spring is the time for re potting. I would do the styling in the pot it is in before moving anyway. It is a good looking piece of material, and may make a good bonsai with a lot of work. It is difficult to say what to do without getting hands on, so it is down to you. You can do some of the work now, but I would not do all at the same time, I would spread it out.

Hi Geoff
First, thank you for the welcome!
Secondly, thanks for guides you propose...so will start styling slowly slowly and wait for spring to re pot it!
I am located in Cyprus, Europe! Actually is an island located in the mediterranean.
Thanks again
Andreas

Are you sure it's a cryptomeria?
Looks more like a Juniperus Procumbens Nana to me:

I also believe this is a procumbens nana juniper. It looks like a potentially interesting one, though. I like it.
